Kathmandu: The Supreme Court has cleared the way for the construction of the cable car project in Pathibhara, Taplejung, by deciding not to continue the interim order that had halted the work.
A joint bench of Justices Dr. Nahkul Subedi and Abdul Aziz Musalman issued the decision, effectively allowing the project to proceed. Earlier, a writ petition filed by Yam Bahadur Limbu and others had led the court to issue a status quo order, halting all construction activities until further deliberation.
The initial interim order was issued by Justice Sharanga Subedi in response to the writ petition filed in Chaitra last year, seeking to stop the project. Both parties were later summoned for a hearing to determine whether the interim order should continue.
Following arguments from both sides, the bench concluded that there was no need to continue the interim order, thus removing legal hurdles to the project.
The cable car construction at the religious site of Pathibhara had been undertaken by the IME Group and had faced delays due to legal challenges. With the Supreme Court's latest decision, the project is expected to resume promptly.
